Last season: (2-12) | 2023 Keepers - Dak Prescott, Saquon Barkley, Jaylen Waddle, Chris Godwin
Jabad did not waste any time in his draft. He knew exactly who he wanted and executed. I believe Robinson was by far the prize of the draft. This did not take any drafting prowess as Jacob knew before the keeper deadline who was going to get drafted with that first overall pick. Judge Jeudy proved to be a great second pick so his prowess did have to come in to play here as other strategies had plenty of time to flesh out. The downside to Jeudy is whether or not Russell Wilson came to play this season. QB’s are entitled to one bad year but not much has changed in Denver to make you think Jeudy will have the upside he deserves. There is too much hinged on Wilson here. Looking at the other available WR that went after Jeudy, I would be willing to bet that there was just as much risk in the other receivers. Jeudy’s age makes him the better candidate and Wilson is a seasoned veteran but he’s not old so this may be the one that pays off. Selecting Love was a bit of a reach. It probably made more sense to hedge Jeudy with another WR especially with Dak as the starting QB. Michael Thomas or Michael Pittman could have been good options. I’m sure Love would have been available in later rounds. However, Jacob already had his QB WR and RB slots filled to start the draft and flex by the end of the first round. Overall, I can’t complain with Jacob’s draft. I feel like I’m nitpicking more than anything.
#5 Joseph Addai
Last season: (4-10) | 2023 Keepers - Lamar Jackson, Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Mark Andrews
Joseph Addai drafted well. It was clear he went into the draft seeking WR. He’s got two top RB’s and there was no reason to get a lesser one. Michael Thomas was a good pick for him at that spot and I think will serve him well. With Lamar Jackson behind center, I’m not sure the appeal to draft Carr. There was definitely better value out there. Surely, taking the Bills DST would have been a great option to keep away from the Hurm crime family if for any reason other than to deny the family from doing the same thing another year. With his tight end QB and RB slots already full, I would have gone with higher upside WR at the Carr pick. The rest of the draft seems to be okay. It’s set more towards being average players to compliment his superstar keepers. The only question mark remains, why did we select Carr. It does seem like there was a run on backup quarterbacks but was Carr that much better than Pickett, Wilson, Purdy or even Stroud? I don’t think so. That early of a pick on Carr seems to weigh down the draft a little bit.
#8 The Numbers
Last season: (8-6) | 2023 Keepers - D.K. Metcalf, Justin Jefferson, Alexander Mattison, Dameon Pierce
I see some of what Lance did here in his draft. He went with some marginal quarterbacks. He hedged his bets on Deshaun Watson with his earliest pick. I think this may pay off for him as I have confidence in Watson’s ability with the tools he has around him in Cleveland. But there was a double hedge here. He went with one of the crustiest, and oldest currently playing QB’s with Cousins and then an unproven NFL QB with Stroud. Stroud may be a great quarterback and Cousins may have some good games left in him but it’s not enough to have used 3 of his first 5 picks on quarterbacks in a league that. Only has one QB eligible to start. Maybe this makes sense with Stroud if this were a superflex league. Lance spent more than 2 minutes on these back to back picks so clearly he was not prepared to draft who was left on the table in the first two picks of the second round. Roschon Johnson might be the best value of the draft for him. I don’t think this excuses the fact that there were way better options on the table when he took Cousins. Nothing else is notable with the draft except the fact that six of his players have a Week 13 bye. How Numbers performs this season will depend on how shrewd he can be with the
waiver wire.
#9 Serenity Now
Last season: (10-4) | 2023 Keepers - Josh Jacobs, CeeDee Lamb, Geroge Kittle, Tony Pollard
Serenity Now! did well picking Quentin Johnson in the second round. A young up-and-coming WR on a decent offense with Herbert behind center. Bijan Robinson was a no brainer for Jabad with the number 1 overall pick but Paul's pick took a little more insight. This might be nuts, but Johnson might be the best pick for the expected draft position. He made up for it picking Jamaal Williams and came out net negative between the two picks. Mooney might be a good value for the upside he could have with Fields at QB. It would be interesting to see how this pick works out at the end of the season. Stafford might be the pick I don’t understand when Stafford has admitted to be too old and crusty to keep up with the rest of the team. One fantastic year out west and he was a must start QB, and then one bad year, and you can say well over his whole career, we was decent given being with the Lions. But when he says how bad he is because he’s old and crusty, he probably isn’t worth this pick. But it makes sense he’d end up in the division of the old and crusty. I expect someone who’s not kept up with football to draft Stafford where he did just based on name recognition. I don’t expect that in this league.
