NCU Fantasy Football | Week 12 Picks!
Hey all! Somehow we're already at Thanksgiving week... just three scoring periods remaining in the regular season. There's been a little bit of angst on our league page lately — as a known peacemaker, I'm definitely not loving it. This league has been great for facilitating friendship for many years, and I'd love to see us move back in the direction of high team management standards + respect for one another.
We've got some really good match ups this week — should be super fun to follow as we get quality time with friends and family during this holiday downtime.
Have a great week!
Garbage @ Am I Not Merciful?
Great battle this week with Supershow Champion Am I Not Merciful? facing Jake Finney's Garbage, who at 6-5, really need a "W" to keep the momentum going toward the playoffs. Sinking back to .500 is really not an option, but he's got an uphill battle now that Ja'Marr Chase has a total potato sack throwing him passes instead of Joe Burrow, and apparently Devon A'Chane isn't quite ready for prime time. Hard to trust right now... so I'm going with the insidious Commodus this week. Lance rides Stroud to another victory, 88 - 75. — Jamaal Gilbert
Serenity Now! @ Fighting Minnow
The next one is a tale as old as time. Song as old as rhyme. Beauty and the Beast. I’ll let you figure out who is who but the Minnows vs. Serenity Now! is always an exciting matchup even though we know the Minnows will smoke Serenity. Serenity has a thing for Cowboys but putting all your eggs in one basket can be a huge risk for a potential huge reward, especially going against the Washington Football Team. That matchup upside is the only thing that will make this game remotely interesting and competitive. Ekeler will prove the issues with Baltimore’s run defense that the Browns exploited. Mostert is matching up against a peewee league. Yeah the Jets D is good but I think they will be playing from behind giving Mostert a higher upside than normal if you can even imagine.
The week was for Minnows may be the third string QB situation in Cleveland. If the Bronco’s defense confounds the Cleveland offense, their defense could spend way too much time on the field. I’m not betting against Cleveland this year but if not for the excellent rest of the team I wouldn’t be betting with Cleveland’s defense. They have surprised all year so maybe they’ll be fine. I have Coach Matt beating Coach Paul, 90-70 and that might be generous for Paul. — Caleb Bartholomew
Trojan Horses @ Clear Eyes Full Hearts
Jabad's Sheep @ The Algorithm
This should be an interesting matchup. I’ve always admired Coach Jake’s win ability in any format. Even in a losing season, he has that ability to play the spoiler and this season seems no different. But Jabad is not using the same algorithms that have the Algo’s winning. It seems the Sheep will go with Love again. The Beetles said all you need is love, but they didn’t have Dak on the bench. If they did, music history would have been forever changed. The Sheep have a Love affair and it may not be very healthy. The problem with algorithms is that they are only as effective as the information put in. If the information put in is erroneous then the output will also be. So far this hasn’t been a problem for the Algo’s. The problem with the Algo’s is if an injury pops up, their bench is very weak and that could take a very competitive week and makes it a lopsided victory for the Sheep. The only thing I like about Algo is their high floor at QB and their TE. I think despite Love getting the starting nod again, I have the Sheep as a sneaky winner. Sheep upset Algo’s by a narrow margin, 82-81. — Caleb Bartholomew
Madison's Finest @ Laces Out
Madison’s finest will win handily, 95-69.
...
...
Okay I’ll write a preview, but man. When will Laces Out coach take responsibility for their poor performance and stop blaming the ball holder. Some of the bench roster spots make no sense. The coach rating shows this as Laces has some of the poorest ratings as a coach to schedule difficulty, I think, in the entire league. There could be promise here but I’m not sure what is happening. I’m sure there’s better players on the waivers that could help the team more than Jimmy G on the bench. Melvin Gordon has been on the practice squad for more than a month and I know there has better free agents available that could actually help make Laces more competitive. Maybe Laces are phoning it in. Jamaal is definitely a team to beat in this league but Laces won’t even offer a challenge thus the easy prediction at the top of this entry. — Caleb Bartholomew
We Are Terrible @ Country Bear Jamboroo
I wouldn’t bet on Cooper with a third string QB, but he’s still got big play maker ability. If the Browns
Figment's Fart @ Joseph Addai
These teams started the season in opposite positions, with Ryan full of bluster and aspiration and Dillon in an odd sort of rebuild mode, but the way things look at present they may end up in the same place — out of the playoffs. Lidds just refused to invest in receivers, and now with Mark Andrews also out for the year the outlook is bleak. That said, winning this week against a pretty weak Figment roster would pull him out of this tailspin (four straight losses!) and back to .500. Joseph Addai wins it, 79 - 74. — Jamaal Gilbert
All Mahomies @ Hurts Locker
The 7-4 Mahomies are coming off a close loss where star receiver Garrett Wilson put up negative points. B-R-U-T-A-L. However, things aren't all bad as he still sits atop the Duckies & Bunnies Division on the strength of a 2-0 season series win over Trojan Horses. Nick faces Hurts Locker this week, a game he should win. Caleb sold off Alvin Kamara earlier Tuesday (Nov. 21), which seriously diminishes his opportunity to spoil — especially considering that Kenneth Walker III's oblique is in ghastly condition. Mahomies prevail, 86 - 73. — Jamaal Gilbert
See you next week!
